Buy cheapest WildStar Gold - The innovations in WildStar are subtle ones

Like the countless alien adventurers already descending into the mystery of planet Nexus, WildStar is itself a stranger in a strange land. As the newest massively multiplayer roleplaying game in an already crowded genre, it has an uphill battle in winning a piece of that market – and further still, keeping it engaging enough to warrant the monthly subscription fee. To compensate, developer Carbine Studios has cast the widest possible net by striving to cater to both casual players and the hardcore MMORPG player, a sizeable feat rather deftly accomplished by sticking to the formula that’s found success, while fleshing out new ideas therein.

This concoction makes for an overwrought aesthetic, and while I am occasionally struck by the gaudiness, I'm more often struck by WildStar's beauty. But even when I venture into villages swamped in kitsch, I know that I am in Nexus. The zombies and the horned snow monsters, the hoverboards and skyboats, the aloof robots and talking vegetables are all wrapped into a world that is very much its own, no matter how easy you might think it is to compare WildStar to World of Warcraft. Such a comparison is a superficial one: where Warcraft aspires to the Warhammer universe's chunky proportions and bulging architecture, WildStar details its landscapes with bright green curlicues and gray-blue bubbles to depict grass and rocks. All of which means that now, as I approach level 25, I've got a variety of potential options available every time I log in. And, because each activity requires a different amount of time and effort, I've almost always achieved something when I log out. That could mean completing any of the above activities, winning a PvP match or progressing along the crafting tech tree. Alternatively, I might find a new table for my house-a terrifyingly compelling Animal Crossing-like patch of land, upgradable with mini-games, resource nodes and resting XP buffs.

For the most part WildStar's innovations are subtle ones, implemented not to revolutionise but to refresh and to bring the traditional and rather stale online RPG more in line with modern sensibilities. Nowhere is this more evident that with the game's movement and combat system, with tab targeting replaced by more intuitive "telegraphs", effectively a combat overlay of targeting cones and area of effect circles that suggest where best to effect a perfect hit, receive buffs, or avoid the ill effects of enemy attention. While it's easy to assume such prompting is little more than a dev hack gimmick, or worse, a cheat for MMO simpletons, it isn't long before floor watching becomes a necessary and compelling part of the interchange of combat. Rote knowledge of various tells becomes partly unnecessary, as you begin to see less the arcs of light and flailing limbs above ground and more and more the shapes projected across it. Alas, this means that combat becomes less about duelling heroes and battling monsters and edges towards parody, but in WildStar's gently self-mocking unreality the system fits in perfectly, heightening situational awareness and allowing for battles - even against the most sedate NPC mobs - with far greater urgency and energy than we've tended to see before.

By giving you the option to move at all times, and even to dodge to a limited degree, the game expects you to use it. Even when you're fighting solo, most enemies will wind up for big attacks that will quickly drain your health if you don't get out of the way. This makes Wildstar one of the fastest-paced MMOs I've ever played. Whether I was playing solo, grouping up in dungeons or taking on world bosses with a bunch of strangers, I had to pay attention and be on my toes at all time, modifying my strategy beyond the simple skill rotations that I learned in other MMOs. I had to learn to play smart long before the late-game uber-difficult raiding that has always defined the MMO experience for many players.

MMORPG veterans, on the other hand, should enjoy the depth of raiding content and extensive questing opportunities. Players who yearn for the days of vanilla WoW might be happiest of all, as WildStar features the satisfyingly slow burn of early MMORPG gameplay combined with the intricate raids and boss-battle design of modern MMORPGs. WildStar was not meant to be everything to all people. To decide if it's right for you, you must also figure out what kind of player you are, or at least want to be. But if you're prepared to dive into the depths of Nexus, WildStar is calling.
