FIFA 16 Coins for sale - Playing FIFA 16 is akin to dancing

Thanks to the power of the new consoles FIFA 16 delivers more realistic player physics. Instead of players bouncing off each other, a collision results in a change of direction, a fall and sometimes a red card. Overall this is more realistic and it adds to the gameplay significantly. Sometimes your own player will run into a team-mate and send both tumbling to the pitch, and other times you’ll be able to push-off a defender to get the small edge you need for a breakaway goal.

My first few games garnered mixed results; a smattering of draws and disappointing losses proved that my previous experience would not prove as much as an advantage as I thought. No matter my choice of team and which world-class line up I’ve employed at the back, tackling is far tougher now too. I’ve lost count of how many penalties I’ve conceded because of a seemingly innocuous shirt pull, or how often my back four seem to lurch forward leaving huge holes in defence. With those gripes out the way… now onto the positives. And there are plenty. First and foremost, FIFA 16 is great fun to play.

The music in FIFA 16 is eclectic, lively, percussive, and international. I find myself muttering gibberish to catchy songs I hear repeatedly because I want to sing along and I don’t know Portuguese. There’s lots of dance music in the soundtrack, and rightly so, since playing FIFA 16 is akin to dancing. The deftness of feet-juggling, passing, sprinting, tapping-it’s an improvisational dance. Executing skill moves with the thumbstick and orchestrating brilliant passing exchanges feels like executing an intricate choreography. On my best days I’m like the Arthur Miller or Martha Graham of digital footie.

Everything you could want from an appearance and gameplay aspect in a soccer game is apparent in FIFA 16. EA Sports has pulled out all the stops to make sure that FIFA 16 is not only a beautifully looking game, but also plays to the same level. Not to mention, EA Sports is offering an Ultimate Team Edition of the title for on $10 more giving gamers $40 of content. No matter what way you slice it, with FIFA 16, EA Sports has outdone themselves. It seems like every new iteration of the franchise has been plugged by the EA Canada crew talking of how much ‘weightier’ players are. How they all carry so much more momentum, and that you’ll really feel clashes and challenges. And as you know, previously this has been bollocks.

This time around though, it bears repeating. Players have genuine momentum. Stand perfectly still at a set piece controlling a receiver and flick the left analogue stick quickly, and the player doesn’t just take a perfect step one way or the other. They actually dip their shoulder and head off in that direction, meaning one step is actually followed by two or three little steps as they try to stop. There’s a more even distribution of weight throughout the bodies of players, and it feels amazing.

These close ups also help you appreciate two of the other little details thrown in to FIFA 16 - pitch and kit wear-and-tear. The pitch cuts up under duress just as it would in a real game of football, and more severely so depending on the conditions. Take out a forward with a hefty sliding challenge on a rainy day and you’ll notice a streak or divot left in the turf behind you. The tackler will also be left with a corresponding wet or dirty patch on his kit, so players like Wayne Rooney don’t leave the field after every game looking like Michael ‘Clean-Shorts’ Carrick.

Like all FIFA titles of the past few years, FIFA 16 comes with its share of incremental improvements, controversial gameplay tweaks (this year; faster play, much harder defending) and pretty much the same set of frustrations from the last one you played. The series has slowly turned into a club who will splash millions on flashy strikers while ignoring basic structural deficiencies in their team; and unless my E3 2015 fan-fiction somehow turns into an eerie Derren Brown-like prediction I’d expect much the same next year. Except, you know, with the crucial addition of next gen player-mounted insect tech or something.
