Aura Kingdom is a majestic new MMORPG published by Aeria Games. From the developers of popular fan-favorite MMOs like Eden Eternal and Grand Fantasia, Aura Kingdom uses state-of-the-art graphics and a detailed anime art style to depict a sprawling fantasy world for players to journey through. This spirit takes its shape and its personality from the hopes and fears of the Envoy. In this way, the spirit becomes an Eidolon, an outward image of the best of what’s inside the Envoy’s heart. Together, Envoy and Eidolon stand against those who would destroy Azuria.

 

Players take the role of these Envoys, hoping to save Azuria from the oncoming darkness. Currently players can choose from one of eight classes; The Guardian, The Duelist, The Ravager, The Wizard, The Sorcerer, The Bard, The Grenadier, and The Gunslinger. Players then choose from one of the four starting Eidolon companions to team up with during battles to create spectacular combos. Aura Kingdom is a free-to-play fantasy MMORPG from Aeria Games, with bright, anime-style graphics. Players may take along companions with them, active pets that grow and evolve, and even share special bonds and memories with the player. Companions also prove useful in combat, as they can form combo attacks with the player in a fluid action combat system. With eight classes, multi-classing, and flexible skills, Aura Kingdom promises to bring new life into the fantasy MMORPG.

 

I found that the game had few core skills for the class, or at least the bard class, but hey, there’s no reason to make it too complicated. It gets a little better though as there is a skill tree which allows you to boost certain attributes for your character. I, for example chose a line that would allow me to increase my experience gain. Others may allow you to handle magic better or give you more physical strength. On that note, I also found that the game allows you to choose which attributes to level up rather than simply choosing for you. That said, it is possible to mess up your character build, but that is the only hardcore attribute the game has.

 

I don’t want to mince words here, the game is for casuals rather than hardcore gamers. First of all, you can choose to have an Eidolon accompany you, which is a spirit that fights by your side at all times. Of course in the beginning the NPC’s see your Eidolon and continually try to swat it like a fly. In a world where these spiritual creatures are common, it is strange just how many people don’t seem to know about them. Still, the Eidolon is very useful, and you can even ask it questions. For example I asked mine what kind of boyfriends it likes. The answer wasn’t very straight forward, but now I’m having trouble dismissing the image of Eidolons having weird astral romances.

 

Also, as much as I enjoyed playing Aura Kingdom on my own, I didn’t like playing it with friends during the early levels. The environment just isn’t that challenging for a group to take on, and wasn’t fun for a support player like me. I like playing the support characters because I find it challenging to be the one to keep everyone alive, and was looking to build a full support bard in Aura Kingdom, but because you can completely nearly all quests by yourself, people don’t need supports. Although there are also party dungeons as mentioned earlier, you don’t get there until level 20. I would’ve preferred it if dungeons had an option to enter as a party or as solo right from the beginning. Alternatively, the developers could have added difficulty levels to make it more challenging.

 

Aura Kingdom does offer mounts, and these are quite different from what you expect. At first, you will wide ostriches, but there are numerous other types of mounts too. It’s up to you to select the best ones you need, and you will certainly appreciate their variety! The game comes with a ton of social features and it even allows you to check the gear attributes, talk with others, trade and just chat in a general form if you want. This is a great game if you want to play and socialize at the same time. Overall, Aura Kingdom represents a welcome turn from Aeria Games to making a decent and family friendly MMORPG that doesn't try to constantly pick at your wallet. In offering competent if tired gameplay mechanics, Aura Kingdom manages to be a fun, polished, and addictive experience that most folks looking for an in-between game should definitely check out.
